Real….or….no?
It’s quite amazing what we see on social media these days. I tried to “get with the times”, but alas……..I realized what is popular isn’t my style at all. Just as anyone else, I will complete a daily scroll of Instagram and Twitter (X), to see if there is any missed news or fresh thoughts that will get my brain juices flowing, but what am I met with usually? A bunch of nonsense! Instead of spending precious time doing something creative, I wind up in an endless guessing loop of IS THIS REAL or NOT? (Hey, Hollyweird……someone make a game show outta this!)
Girls (or guys) plastering on layers of makeup that completely change them into another person? Male motivation experts giving “advice” on high value women (of course they’re not even married)?! Spiritual gurus throwing general predictions out as gospel?! Talking babies, dancing dogs………..people giving thousands to strangers, and insane dating stories?! What the heck is even real anymore?
I get it, drama gets clicks….clicks get exposure….exposure gets you attention and money. How much attention does someone need? Add to that, the wonder of AI. Yikes! AI is the big thing right now, but I have a prediction of my own……….It’s going to fall away. Sure, it’s funny to see Arnold singing like Whitney….but I believe this AI is going to do a ton more damage than good. Political leaders can look like they are saying whatever is programed into AI. Someone could frame YOU for a crime just by manipulating you image/voice! Think that’s crazy? I don’t. I’m one of those people who actually reads “terms and conditions” on contracts and apps….and it’s pretty scary to find that checking that little “accept” box gives some of these companies full permission to use your face and voice for whatever reason they want. No thanks. I would like to get back to some sense of REAL.
I want to see real faces, real half court shots, real love stories, real smiles, real bodies, and real art. maybe I’m old school, or just old in general, but I am betting on nostalgia. People gleefully recall their 80s childhoods because life was simpler. Not easier, but simpler. You had to practice singing to be good….no autotune! You went to art class because computers didn’t draw for you. People created, used imagination, solved problems……all without chat GPT! Vintage is sought after, styles recycle, song/movies get remade. Why? The old stuff is the best! It was real, imperfect, and unmatched. On societies quest to be flawless and wealthy, we forget that flaws are beautiful and wealth comes in many forms.
My big question is: why is fake….the new normal? What was wrong with the old normal? Anyway, my random thought for today is finished. Have a great day….and go create something!
